So let's break down each fundamental gut healing step and why we guide our clients through them as part of their Gut Health Reset journey.
Resetting the metabolism is the first step in gut healing. Metabolism doesn’t just mean weight, in fact it is the process by which our body makes and uses energy - so the health of our metabolism influences everything from our energy throughout the day, to our thyroid function and even impacts our gut and hormones!
We often hear people talking about having a slow metabolism, but what they are actually referring to is an under-fueled metabolism. How we feed our bodies has the greatest influence over the health of our metabolism. This includes not only what we feed our bodies but how and when we feed our bodies.
How to feed a fueled metabolism means understanding and eating enough calories and macronutrients like protein and carbohydrates as well as the key minerals and nutrients needed to turn food into energy efficiently. When we feed our body is also important for a fueled metabolism as this ensures we are working with our gut, hormones, stress and even blood sugar to eliminate excess inflammation, provide consistent energy and restore healthy daily bowel movements.
If you are struggling with any of these symptoms these can be signs from your body that your metabolism is under-fueled:
Constipation, bloating, energy crashes or fatigue, brain fog, waking at night or insomnia, low appetite, always feel cold, hair loss or thinning, stubborn weight, PMS symptoms, hypothyroid, imbalanced mood or intense food cravings
These symptoms and having a history of yo-yo dieting, restricting food or gaining or losing weight multiple times can lead to an under-fueled metabolism.

How the body self-cleans is a direct driver of both gut and hormonal health. Our detoxification and drainage pathways are the bodies' waste networks and how well those pathways are working determines how well the body is able to self clean. If our bodies are not optimally taking the trash out everyday it can lead to a back up of waste, toxins and even hormones that can drive bloating, loose stools or constipation, low energy, acne, headaches, mood, PMS and more. We refer to this as congestion in the drainage system. The detox and drainage systems are made up of the lymphatic system, liver and gallbladder and the intestines with secondary waste systems being the skin, kidneys and lungs. These organ systems are in charge of taking the trash out of the body - think stool, urine and sweat!
When there isn’t enough preparation of the detox and drainage systems, people can feel worse through the gut healing process than they did initially.
